The best things in life are free except stable mental health, which does require some money

I am currently on hold with Thames Water. I am 90 minutes into a phone call with Thames Water to try and get them to refund the £375 they have just incorrectly taken from my account.

There's a lot of boring backstory to this involving an incorrect bill and whatnot, but the upshot is the other day I called Thames Water to say it looks like you're about to take £375 from me incorrectly, please do not do that and despite the fact that they assured me they would not take £375 pounds from me, they have actually taken £375. So now I'm on hold, looking at a Thames Water account telling me that I'm £375 in credit with them and a bank balance telling me there's not enough money in there to cover my rent.

There's a lot to talk here about the rot economy, a lot to talk here about enshittification, a lot to talk here about how Thames Water is a trash company that's set to get worse and how deranged it is that water is privatised at all.
